YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- Runners from all over laced up their shoes for the annual Youngstown Peace Race. The goal is to unite people peacefully through running.
This is the organization's 51st year of having the event. Around 1,100 people participated.
The race has attracted some of the world's most celebrated runners in past years and continues to attract runners locally.
Board members say it wouldn't be able to continue growing without the support of the community.
"Last year was our celebration of 50 years. Believe it or not, we have more runners entering this year than we did last year. I think that says a lot about our local community," said Joe Lucci with the Youngstown Peace.
The goal was to raise at least $15,000 to be given to numerous organizations, including the downtown
