NEWTOWN, Conn. — Despite rain, wind and a looming nor’easter, over 500 participants, including kids, adults and dogs, gathered Sunday morning in Newtown to run for the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary.
With spirits high as the event marks its fifth year, runners from Connecticut to Hawaii, and even Spain, laced up their shoes and readied themselves to race in the 5K for Kindness.
The sanctuary, founded in honor of Catherine Violet Hubbard, who tragically lost her life in the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, hosts the event each year to fund programs that support animals and promote kindness.
