BAYONNE, N.J. (PIX11) — An investigation is underway following a scrap heap fire in Bayonne on Saturday, according to authorities.
Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver announced that officials are investigating the fire at EMR Recycling, which took over five hours to bring under control.
Crews responded to the fire at 6:19 p.m. on Saturday and found "heavy fire" in a pile of scrap metal at the plant, according to Weaver.
Weaver said the fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature, and health officials are monitoring air quality in the area. Officials said smoke from the fire "overspread" the lower part of Bayonne.
No injuries were reported, Weaver said.
