WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - More than 3,000 people laced up to run across Wichita Sunday morning, and another 45,000 came out to cheer them on.
The fall Prairie Fire Races consist of a 5k, a 13.22-mile half-marathon, and a 26.52-mile full marathon.
For some, the Prairie Fire Marathon was a milestone they checked off their list.
"I feel pretty terrible just finishing a marathon, but I'm also super excited. This is a goal I set for myself one year ago this week, and I said I was going to do it, and I'm really happy that I did it," runner Kendall Schellhorn, who is an assistant cross country coach at Wichita Collegiate, said.
For others like Oklahoma school teacher and cross-country coach Dustin Mettler, it was a chance to conquer their first marathon.
