FARGO — Not a single University of North Dakota player was near the bench when the final horn sounded on Sunday afternoon.

The Fighting Hawks bench players mobbed their teammates near midfield, hugged one another and celebrated their 1-0 win over rival North Dakota State in Summit League women’s soccer at Dacotah Field before 437 fans.

“I honestly can’t believe it,” said UND goalkeeper Grace Miller. “We just kept grinding. … This was an all-around team effort.”

The victory marked the Hawks’ (7-5-3, 1-2-2 Summit) first conference win since 2023 and first road conference win since 2020.

“This means the world to us,” said UND head coach Henrik Sohn. “The monkey is off our back. We’re feeling 100 pounds lighter. That’s what this was about. That’s the joy you saw.”
