PITT COUNTY, N.C. (WITN) - A Pitt County man is behind bars after warrants say he assaulted the mother of his child.

28-year-old Austin Underwood was arrested by Greenville police Saturday.

Court documents say he body slammed and punched the woman, who is pregnant. Warrants show Underwood grabbed the woman by the neck with both hands and choked her.

He is charged with assault by strangulation, misdemeanor crime of domestic violence, and assault on a pregnant woman.

Underwood is in the Pitt County Jail under no bond.
