CHARLESTON, W.Va . (WSAZ) - Loved ones putting roses on the fallen firefighter statue in Charleston Sunday afternoon as part of West Virginia Fallen Firefighters Day.
It was day where family and friends gathered to honor and remember the loss of three fire fighters who died in the line-of-duty.
Organizers said the fallen firefighter statue went up in 1994 and since then, every year, firefighters and loved one’s gather at the monument and pay their respects for those who have fallen.
One family at the ceremony sharing the legacy of their fallen loved one.
Benny Filliagi III was just one firefighter who died in 2024. He was the fire chief at the Montgomery Fire Department before dying of a heart attack while on a call.
His name now joining the other firefighters who died in the line-o
