Lansing — The Michigan Economic Development Corp.’s flagship job-attraction initiative is fading away after the Legislature and governor stopped a final $500 million transfer to the program and eliminated future taxpayer funding.

The Strategic Outreach and Attraction Reserve fund, which was hurriedly created in late 2021 in a bid to attract and retain large businesses, has about $607 million still in its account. But House Speaker Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, wants to eliminate the program and take back the $607 million.
