It’s become a cliche that the most important factor in success is simply showing up. You can’t wish your way to achievement.

Representatives of various city and county government agencies, nonprofits, and community leaders gathered last Wednesday to lament the lack of a coordinated anti-poverty plan in Greater Toledo.

Their desired solution is economic development that benefits everyone.

Of course that’s an excellent goal. But it will take disciplined focus to bring that vision to reality.

The first and most important poverty reduction plan for Toledo is a campaign to push participation in the political process.

In 2024 Lucas County voter turnout was the lowest in all of Ohio. The Blade Editorial Board has repeatedly pointed out that Toledo is easy to ignore in Columbus and Washington
