LA PLATA COUNTY, Colo. —
Heavy rainfall that began on Friday has caused flooding in La Plata County and Archuleta County, Colorado, leading to evacuations and damage to homes.
The Pine River Shares building is serving as the new evacuation center, where a spokesperson for the county said four people are staying overnight, although more than 300 homes were evacuated.
Sarah Jacobson, the public information officer for La Plata County, explained that the evacuations started Saturday morning in areas near the Vallecito Reservoir, north of Bayfield. A map displayed on-screen showed the affected areas, with yellow indicating standby and green marking evacuated homes.
On Sunday, crews assessed the damage, finding about 90 homes affected.
