Last year, all free-market house property taxes nearly doubled and I’m confused as to where all this extra tax money has gone.
Your property tax funds local government services such as public schools, police and fire departments, libraries and infrastructure projects.
This November, Pitkin County residents will be asked to give more of their hard-earned money to cover some of these government services.
I’m not against having a great fire department or better schools, but I do have questions as to where all this new property tax money has gone.
Maybe it’s time for an independent tax audit on this topic. For most of us living in our valley, we worked hard to get a foothold in some sort of housing.
But all these tax increases are making it harder and harder to stay here.
