KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo College President Jorge Gonzalez did not anticipate his path would take him on a journey through leadership in higher education. But during that journey, he said his desire was to make education accessible to everyone.
This academic year marks the end of that journey. He is set to retire next summer after 10 years at the helm of Kalamazoo College.
"I feel that I won the lottery 10 years ago, and it's been absolutely amazing to be here," he said.
Gonzalez's higher education started in Monterrey Technical in Mexico.
"When you're in Mexico, you see poverty around you," he said.
"And so what I decided to do with my life is, I wanted to work in the government, because I believe that better economic policies could eliminate poverty. So, I decided, OK, I'm
