During the last municipal election, the Town of Thunderbolt decided that, for the mayor at least, they had an appetite for someone new. After serving as mayor for eight years and on city council for 12 years before that, Beth Goette was uprooted by newcomer Dana Williams in 2021, ushering a new era in Thunderbolt.

Williams beat Goette with 60% of the vote to Goette’s nearly 40%, of the total 435 votes cast. The two will face off in a rematch for mayor's seat this year, but the council race is shaping up to look different than in 2021, which had six people running uncontested for six council seats.
