Daniel Seuzeneau, the longtime public face of the Slidell Police Department, will lead the department on an interim basis following the departure of Police Chief Randy Fandal, who on Saturday won a special election to be mayor.

Fandal on Monday said he had appointed Seuzeneau as assistant chief last week. Per the city's charter, the assistant chief slides into the interim chief role and will serve in that capacity for the remainder of the open term.

Fandal beat Bill Borchert to take the remaining eight months of former Mayor Greg Cromer's term, who resigned the office in January. Borchert, who was an at-large Slidell City Council member, became mayor when Cromer left the office.
