The Drexel Fire Department had to be evacuated Friday afternoon after a fire truck caught fire inside its station.
A release from the town said its fire department employees responded quickly to the fire of the older model fire engine.
Just before 1 p.m. Friday, Drexel Fire Chief Jonathan Wilkie heard a pop and noticed smoke coming from one of the department’s older fire engines parked inside the bay. Crews acted immediately to contain the blaze, preventing further damage to the station and other vehicles housed inside, the release said. The fire bay is in the same building as town hall so all town staff working in the building evacuated, the release said. No injuries were reported among firefighters or civilians.
