The Marion City Council is considering adopting a new rule to forbid people from sleeping or camping on public property, especially in the downtown area.
The issue of homeless or unhoused people in Marion was brought before the council members at the regular council meeting on Tuesday.
Last month, city officials, Marion police officers, downtown business owners, the staff of Mission Ministries Alliance and other local agencies met at the Marion Depot to talk about homelessness in Marion.
On Tuesday, three downtown business owners spoke during the public comment portion of the meeting to voice concerns about people roaming the streets of Marion and causing problems for their businesses.
