A Thorold business owner has lodged a complaint with Niagara Region after an interaction with one of its bylaw enforcement officers.
Tom Koufidis, of PTT Automotive and Service at 54 Ormond St. S., said he became more frustrated when he discovered the officer was likely a former Niagara Regional Police constable who had been suspended with pay for three years from 2005 to early 2008.
Koufidis said the bylaw officer barged in, demanded access to the premises, and one accused him of running a scrap yard.
Koufidis said he tried to explain that he sells and services used cars, and it clearly isn’t a scrap yard.
“He was aggressive, saying, ‘I’ll shut your doors right now; I don’t believe a word you’re saying,’” Koufidis said. “It was like he wanted to start a fight with me.”
