SHARM EL SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) — Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas arrived on Monday in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh resort to attend a summit co-chaired by the United States and Egypt, and to endorse President Donald Trump's vision for peace in the region.
Abbas was received by Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi after arrival.
World leaders have began arriving at the summit, which is to start later Monday with Trump and el-Sissi co-chairing. The gathering is meant to support the implementation of the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and set the stage for the next more complicated phase that calls for a postwar arrangement in Gaza.
Israel rejects a role for the Abbas-led Palestinian Authority.
