In a bleak conflict, some light. There is now a ceasefire in Gaza , and a new openness by Hamas to relinquish power for peace. But nature – and especially conflict zones – hate a vacuum. So who takes Hamas’s place leading Gaza , and will they be able to deliver on the promise of peace?

The answer depends on a new – and hopefully aptly named – “Board of Peace”. It will be led by Donald Trump , staffed by international figures, backed by multinational peacekeepers – and fraught with risk.
