Urban Housing Solutions has appointed nonprofit industry veteran, attorney and former state employee Chris Cowart as chief executive officer.
Cowart succeeds Brent Elrod, who will step down after 19 years of service with the Nashville-based nonprofit.

Since joining UHS in 2006, Elrod has helped develop or purchase 28 properties, preserving or developing sites with more than 1,200 affordable apartments.
Elrod announced his decision to leave in May, with the UHS Board of Directors having retained Madison, Wis.-based Peter Gray Executive Search to find a successor.
According to a release, Cowart most recently served as associate general counsel and director of housing discrimination enforcement for the State of Tennessee. In addition, he previously held senior l
