A fixed-wing airplane crashed into the median of Interstate 195 in Dartmouth Monday morning, causing a fire and forcing the closure of part of the highway, officials said.
Massachusetts State Police learned of the crash around 8:15 a.m. Monday, Tim McGuirk, an agency spokesman, said in a statement.
The plane may have been attempting to land at New Bedford Regional Airport, but State Police say the pilot did not provide the airport with a flight plan or the number of people on board.
The identity of the pilot or passengers, as well as the severity of their injuries, was not immediately available Monday morning.
The highway is closed going west at exit 19, and in both directions at exit 22, according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. The left lane heading east is also cl
