DARTMOUTH - At approximately 8:15 a.m. , State Police became aware of a fixed-wing airplane which crashed on the median of Interstate 195 in Dartmouth . The crash resulted in a fire on the ground.
State police say preliminary information indicates the plane may have been attempting to land at New Bedford Regional Airport, though it does not appear that the pilot provided the airport with a flight plan or the number of people aboard the aircraft.
Troopers assigned to the Bristol County State Police Detective Unit, Crime Scene Services Section, and Field Services responded to the scene along with New Bedford and Fall River Police, Fire, and EMS.
A nor'easter is moving through southern Massachusetts, at the time of the rash it was very windy and spitting rain.
