HILTON HEAD, S.C. ( WTOC /Gray News) - New details are emerging about why investigators believe an 82-year-old woman shot and killed her husband at an assisted living facility in South Carolina.

Harriet Kay Recker, 82, is accused of shooting and killing her husband, 81-year-old Dennis Recker, at the Preston Health Center, a skilled-care facility on Hilton Head Island. She is charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Based on the discovery of notes, financial documents and interviews with witnesses and family members, deputies now believe the Sept. 12 shooting was premeditated.

Dennis Recker had been admitted to the care facility the day before the shooting due to medical issues requiring extra care, according to court proceedings.
