GARFIELD, Minn. — A couple in northwestern Minnesota is recovering after an incident that was close to claiming their lives.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says a 911 call came into dispatchers just before 10:30 p.m. Sunday from a woman in the town of Garfield who told dispatchers she was experiencing symptoms of a heart attack. The caller also said her husband was experiencing a seizure.

Dispatchers immediately recognized the symptoms the woman was describing could indicate carbon monoxide poisoning, and ordered the couple to immediate leave their residence. Both were transported to a local hospital, and then airlifted to another facility for specialized treatment.
