BEAUMONT, Texas — Two people were shot early Saturday morning when a man opened fire on a crowd in the 3000 block of South 5th St, prompting a security guard to return fire as the gunman fled, according to Beaumont Police.
The shooting happened at about 12:45 a.m. on Oct. 11, according to a news release from Beaumont Police. Both victims were taken to a Southeast Texas hospital by private vehicle shortly after the incident.
One victim was standing near the roadway when the suspect began firing toward the crowd and was struck multiple times, police said. The second victim, who was also in the roadway, was grazed by one bullet.
A security guard in the area returned fire toward the suspect's vehicle as it left the scene, according to police.
