KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A boil water advisory has been issued for the city of Atchison by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE).

The advisory started Monday morning, according to KDHE. It will stay in effect until the problem-causing contamination is resolved.

KDHE said officials issued the advisory because of an increase in turbidity in the treated water. According to KDHE, high turbidity can lead to a loss of chlorine levels and may result in contamination.

The department offered the following tips for people impacted by the advisory: • Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water. • Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic icemaker. • If your tap water appears dirty, flush the water lines by letting
