KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Pet Resource Center of Kansas City (PRCKC) has launched its "SPAY It Forward" campaign in an effort to address the overpopulation crisis.
From Oct. 13-26, PRCKC is asking the community to help cover the cost of spay and neuter surgeries for local pets in need.
Last year alone, PRCKC said it spayed and neutered nearly 13,000 animals. This year, the nonprofit said it has been subsidizing more than $30,000 every month to keep these essential services affordable for families who otherwise couldn't access care.
As shelters and rescues across the country face overcrowding and rising intake numbers, PRCKC said the need for affordable spay and neuter has reached a crisis level.
"Pet overpopulation is at a breaking point in our community," said Dr. Melia Washington, chief
