A Warwickshire shopkeeper admitted selling giant canisters of 'laughing gas' and balloons to youngsters. A young undercover Trading Standards Officer, who was working for Warwickshire County Council, went into Long Lawford Stores in Rugby and paid £31.99 for a giant canister of Nitrous Oxide and a pack of balloons.

It has become a dangerous and potentially lethal trend for Nitrous Oxide to be inhaled through balloons filled from canisters of the gas. The youngster was sent in as part of a Trading Standards sting which was set-up after Warwickshire Police received intelligence that the store was selling Nitrous Oxide.

It came after a local 18-year-old had been hospitalised with burns to his throat and airways after allegedly breathing in the Class C drug.
