PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) -- The Commonwealth is one of 27 states that still use capital punishment, also known as the death penalty. A Representative is aiming to change that with a new piece of legislation.

Currently, in Pennsylvania, there is a pause on executions by Executive Action signed by Governor Josh Shapiro. Rep. Christopher Rabb argued in his newest memo that the death penalty is an ineffective deterrent to violent crime as well as an incredibly costly and flawed system of punishment.

There have been 13 people exonerated from death row, five since 2019 and three in 2020. There are currently 94 people on the execution list in Pennsylvania.
