PANOLA COUNTY, Texas (KETK) -- A Panola detention officer has been treated for a mild concussion after he was struck by an inmate this Sunday.

On Oct. 12, at approximately 6:50 p.m., a Panola County detention officer was collecting laundry from inmate Lakedrian Lakeith Thompson, who was in a separation cell. Thompson then threw the laundry at the officer and struck him in the face. A struggle ensued, and after additional staff arrived, Thompson was returned to his cell.

The officer was transported to UT Health Carthage ER, where he was treated and released for a mild concussion.

Thompson was originally in custody after being arrested by the Carthage Police Department for two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of stalking, and two counts of criminal trespass.
