MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - The Mahoning County OVI Task Force will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint somewhere in Mahoning County this weekend.

The checkpoint will take place between Friday, October 17 and Sunday, October 19. More specific details including the date, time and location of the checkpoint will be announced later.

The checkpoint will be accompanied by saturation patrols by various law enforcement agencies throughout Mahoning County in order to intercept and deter impaired drivers on the roadway.

A 1990 U.S. Supreme Court ruling requires that drivers be notified before sobriety checkpoints are conducted to avoid violating constitutional protections against illegal search and seizure. The ruling did not specify what constitutes adequate notification.
