Michael Madigan , the longest-serving legislative leader in U.S. history, is expected to report to prison to begin serving his sentence this week, sources told NBC Chicago.
Two sources with knowledge of the situation told political reporter Mary Ann Ahern that Madigan will report to a federal prison in West Virginia Monday -- the same day he was court-ordered to begin serving his time.
Madigan had received a 90-month sentence in June for federal bribery, conspiracy and wire fraud convictions tied to a scheme to push legislation in exchange for jobs and contracts for his associates.
In what became a stunning political collapse, Madigan was also handed a $2.5 million fine and will be required to serve three years probation.
