COLUMBUS, Ohio (WOIO) -Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost testified before the House Judiciary Committee encouraging Ohio to become the next state to use nitrogen hypoxia to execute death row inmates.

House Bill 36 looks to add this new method of execution as an option for Ohio’s 113 current sitting on death row .

In Ohio the only approved execution method is by lethal injections of various drugs.

The last lethal injection carried out in Ohio was in 2018.

Ohio, and many states, have not carried out lethal injections because drug companies have made it hard to acquire the needed compounds.

“Private drug companies are defying Ohio’s laws and vetoing public policy by refusing to provide execution drugs” Yost said in his testimony.
