BEAUMONT, Texas — A 52-year-old Brownsville man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for intoxication manslaughter in a fatal wrong-way crash that killed two women in June 2024 on U.S. Highway 69 near the Jefferson County jail.

Salvador Ramos Gamez pleaded guilty in August to the charges in Jefferson County's 252nd District Court before Judge Raquel West in August 2025. Judge West ordered a pre-sentence report from the probation department before determining his punishment, according to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.
