KALAMAZOO, MI — When high school hockey practice gets underway later this month, things are going to be a bit different for four of the six South Central High School Hockey League clubs.
With the sudden closure of Wings West in September, four teams are all without their longtime home rink: Mattawan, Portage, Kalamazoo United and the Kalamazoo Eagles.
Each club is now preparing for early-morning practice times, life without a dedicated home locker room and altered game schedules, said league commissioner Frank Noonan.
Those games and practices will mostly be held at Wings Event Center this year, with a few games taking place at Lawson Ice Arena on Western Michigan University’s campus, he said.
“We were fortunate that we were able to move the whole program over to Wings Event Center
