Actress Crystal Lowe announced last week that she is currently battling stage 3 breast cancer. The actress, known for her roles in several Hallmark movies and shows, shared the news in an essay published by People.

The deeply personal essay shares Lowe’s story, from when she first noticed something might be wrong, to her diagnosis, and how her ongoing treatment is progressing.

“This journey has been scary, strange, and humbling. It has stripped me down in ways I never saw coming, physically, emotionally and spiritually,” Lowe wrote. “And yet... I promise to persevere. To turn poison into medicine. To grow. That’s what I’m learning every single day.”
