What the Survey Found

According to a 2025 survey by the American Institute for Cancer Research, most Americans don’t realize that grilling meat over high heat or an open flame can produce cancer-causing compounds called carcinogens . In fact, only 20% of Americans are aware of this link between grilled meats and cancer risk .

While this doesn’t mean you need to give up grilled favorites altogether, it does mean it’s worth understanding the risks and how to lower them.
