JEFFERSON COUNTY, Texas — A burn ban is now in effect for all unincorporated areas of Jefferson County following a declaration Monday by Jefferson County Judge Jeff Branick. The order comes as extremely dry weather and elevated fire danger raise concerns about the potential for wildfires.
Judge Branick’s decision was made after consulting with the Jefferson County Office of Emergency Management, the Texas A&M Forest Service, the National Weather Service in Lake Charles, and local fire chiefs.
“The Burn Ban applies to all unincorporated areas within Jefferson County, Texas,” the news release stated. “This measure is essential to protect lives, property, and the environment during this critical period.”
