A late-night argument turned violent early Sunday, Oct. 13, when a fight involving two women escalated into a shooting that left one man hospitalized in life-threatening condition, according to the Amarillo Police Department.

Around 2:21 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2900 block of South Pierce Street on reports of a physical altercation that had become a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man lying on the ground near a vehicle with a gunshot wound. He had life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital.

Investigators learned that two women had been arguing throughout the evening before the confrontation became physical. Police said one woman brandished a knife, and during a struggle over the weapon, one of the women bit off a portion of the other’s ear.
