BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — A Blair County farm, along with 23 others, will now remain as prime farmland thanks to a joint investment between state and local government.

According to a release, 24 farms across 14 counties will now remain farms after a $5.7 million purchase agreement for the developmental rights of 2,079 acres. The agreement will protect the land from any future residential or commercial development.

“When farms are sold to become warehouses or housing developments, they are gone forever, along with the food, fuel, and fiber they produced,” Agriculture Secretary Russell Redding said. “High-quality farmland is one of Pennsylvania’s most valuable economic assets.
