BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A man has been charged after allegedly attempting to steal a law enforcement vehicle after a crash in Morganton, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office.

Around 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, officers responded to a crash near the Hidden Hill Wedding Venue on Burkemont Road. When they arrived, they saw that a blue Toyota Camry had traveled off the right side of the road and down an embankment.

While at the scene, first responders saw the driver, later identified as 62-year-old Arthur Andres Hoyle II, stealing one of their vehicles, officials said. Shortly after authorities tried to stop him, Hoyle lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a different embankment.
