LAKE CITY, Fla. (WCJB) - Jayden Burch, a teenager found guilty of second-degree murder for shooting Mariah Smith, 12, was sentenced on Monday to life in prison.
The judge sentenced Burch to life in prison for the charge of second-degree murder. He will serve 30 years in prison concurrently for both counts of attempted murder. He was also ordered to pay about $8,000 in court costs and family restitution.
Before the sentencing, people were able to give statements to the court about Burch and the victim.
In August 2023, a bullet claimed the life of Mariah Smith, 12, after she was shot when bullets were fired into the home on Northwest Long Street in Lake City.
