PENNSYLVANIA (WTAJ) — Protection From Abuse (PFA) orders are a legal order that works to protect a person who may be being threatened or physically hurt by another individual, and the number of cases that were filed in 2024 saw an increase.
According to a report by the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts, in 2024, 41,980 new petitions were filed, and 87% were granted. Philadelphia County made up 19% of all new petitions filed (8,057 petitions), with Allegheny County being the next highest county with 9% of all cases (3,922 petitions).
From 2023, there was a less than 1% increase in the number of petitions filed, but an increase nonetheless.
