JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Gov. Tate Reeves will not step in to block the execution of a man convicted of raping and killing a college student more than 30 years ago.

On Monday, Gov. Tate Reeves said on social media, that pending a last-minute stay from the U.S. Supreme Court, Charles Ray Crawford’s execution will go forward on October 15.

“This is a solemn responsibility, and it is something that no one takes pleasure in. However, it is a responsibility I accept with the utmost seriousness in keeping with the oath I swore to faithfully carry out the duties of governor,” he wrote. “Mississippi is praying for Ms. Ray and her family. Justice must be served on behalf of victims.”
