KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Thousands of men and women who leave the military take advantage of the GI Bill every year either to attend college or pursue a technical school, but the transition can be challenging. A program at the University of Tennessee helps veterans make the adjustment from military life to that of a student.
On the UT campus, 150 veterans take advantage of what is offered.
"We do everything from helping them with the benefits they earned in the service with their GI Bill. Also, we provide tutoring, we provide workshops, we provide school supplies," said Halle Timpson, director of Veterans Upward Bound.
The Veterans Upward Bound program is not only for students at UT, but other schools in the area, including Pellissippi State Community College, Maryville College, Roane
