NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Measles outbreaks are making headlines across the United States, with more than 1,500 cases reported nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The spike is alarming, as there were only 285 reported cases in the U.S. in 2024.

Data from the CDC shows a dramatic spike across all recorded age groups: • 252.5% increase in reported measles cases for children under the age of 5 • 597.7% increase in reported measles cases for ages 5-19 • 575.7% increase in reported measles cases for adults 20 and older

In New York City, reported cases in 2025 exceeded the combined totals for 2020-2024. One of the more recent exposures was reported in SoHo and the Lower East Side, according to Commissioner Dr. Michelle Morse.
