PORTLAND, Maine — Good Theater in Portland opened its 22nd Main Stage Series season this month, but it’s the first production being performed in its new home.
Earlier this year, Good Theater moved into Stevens Square Theater, at the old McAuley High School complex. After a summer of renovations and smaller shows, they’re now presenting their first Main Stage show: “It Shoulda Been You.”
Good Theater co-founders Brian P. Allen and Steve Underwood say the production is full of Maine talent, and nearly 200 people came out to audition for the show.
“It was the biggest turnout we’d ever had, and the talent was amazing,” Allen said. “One of the things that’s special about Good Theater is we really focus on Maine-based talent, so everybody in the show is local.”
