UNION COUNTY, S.C. —

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged a Union County man with falsely representing himself as an insurance agent.

According to the arrest warrant, on March 8, 2024, Jhakia Sharvae Cureton pretended to be a licensed insurer by creating a social media post advertising, "I am a trusted authorized Allstate/Progressive Dealer." Cureton then acted as an agent and bound insurance coverage for a person through the Progressive website.

SLED said Cureton admitted to never holding a professional insurance license and that he should not have suggested that he was licensed in the advertisement.

The South Carolina Department of Insurance requested the SLED investigation.

Cureton was booked into the Union County Detention Center.
