( NewsNation ) — Former Major League Baseball player Sandy Alomar Sr. has passed away in Puerto Rico at the age of 81, MLB announced on Monday.
Alomar Sr. was born in Salinas, Puerto Rico, in 1943. He made his MLB debut in 1964 at the age of 20 with the Milwaukee Braves and played until 1978. During his 15 years in the big leagues, Alomar Sr. played for six different teams, primarily as a middle infielder.
He had a prolific stretch from 1970 to 1974 with the Angels, during which he was named an All-Star in 1970 and remains the only player in the team’s history to play a full 162-game season twice.
