(FOX40.COM) — A high school in South Lake Tahoe went on a lockdown after officials reported a man wearing a helmet, possibly armed with a shotgun, on Monday afternoon. • Video above: How to report a public safety threat

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to the high school around 12:15 p.m. for reports of a man wearing a helmet, possibly armed with a shotgun, near the fence line of the campus.

SLTPD said officers arrived to find the man near the shared fence line of the high school and nearby apartment complex, wearing a full facemask and black pants.

According to police, officers detained him and discovered that he had an air rifle. The man was a resident of the apartment complex and had been shooting his air rifle at paper targets.
